Grandson of an officer in the 15th Ludhiana Sikhs
An interview with the grandson of Manta Singh (1885-1915) who famously saved the life of his British officer, Captain Henderson, on the Western Front, only to be shot whilst doing so.
As a result he was hospitalised in Brighton where he died of his wounds and was cremated on the site which later became the Chattri Memorial to the Indian dead.
Jamail Singh recounts Manta Singh's story and how he and his family have been paying homage to him at the Chattri since 1983.
