Davinder Dhillon, our good friend and the man who has been keeping alive the annual remembrance event at the Chattri Memorial in Patcham Downs, Brighton, visited our exhibition.

He is fittingly photographed next to oil paintings depicting the Brighton Hospital and the album featuring Subedar Manta Singh, who died in Brighton and was cremated on Patcham Downs.

In 1999, the Royal British Legion decided that it was no longer able to continue organising an annual event. It was then that Davinder Singh Dhillon took over the stewardship of the remembrance ceremonies, involving the public, politicians, as well as a Britains large South Asian population and it’s military veterans to reinvigorate the event and increase its popularity.

Under his stewardship as the chairman of the Chattri Memorial Group, the remembrance ceremonies have been held annually since 2000.
