From Southall if you head North on South Road then head North East along the A40 until you get to Hangar Lane near South Ealing, turn onto the North Circular and you will eventually pass by a place called Southgate in North London. Confused? Don't be!
There's a funky little gurudwara here with an excellent community spirit, with members of the congregation attending from random places which don't have their own local gurudwara.
That's where our superstar volunteer Amrit Lohia came in recently - she single handedly organised and gave a presentation to these hard to reach folk.
She gave a talk on Sikh involvement in the war and promoted our project as a great way of the community getting involved in the forthcoming centenary commemorations.
She packed out the hall and everybody's attention throughout. The audience was reminded of their proud history and was very enthused, not to mention impressed, and this event will definitely help spread the word about out project.
Overall the day was a great success and we hope to organise many more such outreach events. Get in touch if you want us to come to your event or venue and present to your audience.
In the meantime, go Amrit!
