We sent two of our volunteers, Rachel and Simran, on a special mission to visit the Royal Collection, held at Windsor Castle, to see what they could dig up from the vaults.
They found a remarkable photographic album of Sikh soldiers with bullet, shrapnel and other wounds suffered during the fighting, complete with the who, what when and where of each image.
The album even contained images of 100 year old x-rays - a truly unexpected find.
As well as the satisfaction of researching this amazing material, the girls got a good introduction into the do's and dont's of handling rare and aged artefacts.
A good day out for the girls and more excellent material for the summer exhibition. Well done girls!
